#7 Thoughts on OpenAI Saga and Taylor Swift's Eras Tour
Some incredible insights about some of the recent events👇
WTF is happening with OpenAI?
Everyone knows Sam Altman was fired from OpenAI, but only a few know about the most incredible corporate takeover led by Satya Nadella. Read below to know the entire story👇
Ilya Sutskever (Chief Scientist and board member of OpenAI) calls Sam Altman on 16th November to tell him he is being fired from the company.
Mira Murati (former CTO) is appointed interim CEO.
Also, the board tells Greg Brockman (President of OpenAI) that he will remain the president but will be sacked from the board. But he decides to leave the company along with Sam.
The OpenAI employees are outrageous about why Sam was ousted from the company. The general public gets in support of Sam on Twitter.
We all know that Microsoft invested $10B in OpenAI, but it didn't know about this in advance.
Nadella was furious but didn't say much in public. And now is the time when the story, the drama, and the historic corporate takeover starts.
The board realizes Sam has enormous support, and a rumour starts about Sam returning to the company with Greg.
However, this rumour stays a rumour only, and Emmet Shear (Twitch CoFounder) is appointed as the new interim CEO.
Now Nadella drafts a tweet stating that Microsoft will be working closely with Shear and the OpenAI team, and SAM AND GREG WILL NOW BE LEADING A NEW RESEARCH AI TEAM AT MICROSOFT.
This team could be joined by any employee of OpenAI who had decided to leave the company along with Sam and Brockman.
Now, 500 employees write a letter to the OpenAI board that they will join Sam at Microsoft, leaving OpenAI.
All the employees start tweeting, 'OpenAI is nothing without its people,' and Sam starts reposting all the tweets.
Now, OpenAI's valuation is around $90B. Microsoft invested $10B in it earlier.
If you look closely, Nadella, through his brilliant insight, bought OpenAI for $10B by hiring its entire team and its leader.
Nadella is simply brilliant.
Took Microsoft from $270B to $2.7T (10x increase) by adding $2T
He is comparable to Bill Gates and, again, makes India proud❤️.
Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour is just Magnificent❤️
Taylor Swift is a Business-Case-Study in itself that we all need to read about!
Typically, every $100 spent on live performances generates an estimated $300 in local spending on things like hotels, food and transportation.
But Taylor's fame is taking this to the next stage.
For the Eras Tour, her fans are dropping an estimated $1,300 on things like outfits and costumes, merchandise, dining, and travel—boosting local economies by hundreds of millions of dollars in one weekend.
Lesson No. 1: The power of branding is authentic. It helps you to charge a premium.
Despite spending more than $1300 per event, 91% of the fans say they would go again.
Lesson No 2: Even after charging a premium, you should be able to retain customers.
Thousands of fans line up for hours in advance to snag the coveted merch of $75 hoodies, $55 long-sleeve shirts and $45 T-shirts.
Lesson No 3: Once you have dominated the market in one category (her voice and performance), market your other products along with the dominant one to create other streams of revenue.
Swift gave every truck driver on the tour an extra $100,000 this summer, and she gifted bonuses to sound technicians, caterers, dancers and other staff. Total amount of bonuses exceeds $55M.
Lesson No. 4: Never forget people who stood by you to help you succeed.
